Faithful silent witnesses of heartbreaking frustrations

Yeah.  That’s what I’ll call us.  Myself and a woman in a (veerrry pretty) purple hijab standing at the bathroom sink witnessing a heated conversation between two girls about their pregnant friend.

“I don’t understand why she can’t just get rid of it.  Did you know that she’s decided not to go to med school? She’s already adjusting her plans because she’s pregnant.  That’s so stupid.  I mean, she can just get rid of it! I thought she was smart.  And no, she’s not doing this because of religion.  That would be even more stupid.”

As they walk out, my thoughts mirror the quiet words of the girl next to me “Quit bashing people. Why can’t they just let her make her choices?”

And then I pray.

Sometimes my heart is broken and I don’t even know why.
